gaws:

I’m sorry but I hate things like this.

I wish there were no guides on how to wear anything.

‘cuff your pants exactly 2 inches, wear this exact hat and this exact shirt under this exact jacket then people will think you dress well’

its stupid

First Collection

taekim:

All of our products are organically hand-dyed using traditional Korean techniques. We use charcoal, ash, persimmon, indigo, nuts, and various plants in a meticulous, month long dyeing process to produce the distinct, rich coloring you see in our first collection. Our hand dyeing process creates unique patterns in our fabrics, making each piece one of kind, with its own combination of color, texture, and cut.

reblogging so I remember to check this out once the store opens. Always nice to see Korean designers put out something respectable.

Rise is Important
I strongly believe that pants look best when they sit on, not just at, your hips.
Where your pants sit on you is determined by your rise, which is the distance from your crotch seam to the top of your waistband. The trend, unfortunately, is for low-rise pants, which often sit below the hips. If you’re lucky, you can sometimes find pants that sit at your hips. If you look harder still, you can find pants that sit on your hips. The last is what I think looks best on all men.
Assuming you tuck in your shirt (which you should be), there are two unfortunate effects when your pants sit too low. The first is that your torso looks unnaturally long, thus ruining your proportions. The second is that you’ll look heavier, especially if you already have a gut. Very few men are skinny enough for low rise pants to not have this effect.
The photo above shows two men, one with low-rise jeans and the other with a higher rise pair of trousers. The one on the left is skinny enough to not look heavy with his jeans, but his torso still looks unnaturally long. The man on the right, on the other hand, has his proportions down. Most importantly, he looks like a grown man, not an adolescent.
When buying pants, make sure your trousers sit on you properly. On my 30 inch waist trousers, I like my rise to be around 10 to 10.25 inches, but your personal tastes and body proportions may differ.

Yeah, I guess Hedi was just fucking around and had no idea what he was doing. To say a high rise “looks best on all men” shows a deep-seated ignorance of fashion and fails to grasp its multitude of approaches. Tell me, Derek, how would you possibly be able to make a reference to a subculture like grunge while wearing a pair of high rise pants? Both high-rise and low-rise pants have their respective places in creating particular aesthetics and to completely eschew one for the other is idiotic.

here’s the english version for the ones who can’t understand japanese (like me)

I don’t always reblog posts without making a snide comment, but when I do, it’s about Uniqlo collabs.

Put This On: Sartorial Smackdown

putthison:

From a PTO reader:

I’m a 27 year-old white guy who lives in Brooklyn. I came to work in my NYC finance office (I’m an underling) today in a nice red checkered shirt and a pair of robin-egg blues Uniqlo slacks, finished off with a pair of very white Toms classics.

As a finance firm with a trading floor, it gets very fratty (earlier today, there was a pushup contest and an arm wrestling bout). And it being Friday it was pretty sloppy clotheswise. I walk on to the floor to collect some documents, and a group of five dudes start hooting and laughing, pointing at my Toms.

No.

To quote Captain JeanLuc Picard, “The line must be drawn here! This far! No further!”

So I turn one of the mooks who’s spouting nonsense like “How can you wear those?” and fire right back with “How can you come to work wearing a barf orange fleece jacket?” Laughter erupts, and a rare lady trader pipes up from across the room, “You tell ‘em!” I grab the folder I need, and as he sputtered for a response, I walk past him, “Yeah. Have a nice weekend, be sure to put on some comfortable shoes when you get home.” And I leave. Like. A. Boss.

It was like a scene in a goddamn movie, and I feel great. Put This On definitely gave me the confidence to pull that off.

I’m ambivalent about Tom’s, but I’m gung-ho about sticking it to the mouth-breathers. Bravo, reader!

Ah, the old adage that says “two wrongs make a right”. Bravo, PTO, you’ve outdone yourself again.

/sarcasm

Personally, I think he should have explained to his coworkers what he thought the aesthetic value of his outfit was and how the Toms contributed. That way, it would lead to fruitful discussion that would enrich both mens’ sense of style. I know I always joke about how poorly some of tumblr’s most fashionable men are dressed, but I always welcome explanations for why the original poster thinks his outfit looks good.

Sorry about the recent dearth of posts, I had to take care of some things.

Anyways, I wanted to write a post about shopping in Korea at the request of abearemerges, but I’ve been mostly disappointed by what I’ve found. Firstly, I wanted to pick up a suit, because it’s hard to find an entry-level suit that fits me. The disappointment came when I found that basically all the stores carried the same type of suit: short, one/two-button, slim lapel, slimane knock-offs. Oddly enough, despite the ridiculously small jackets, the pants had a very relaxed fit everywhere. Terrible. Outside of a few blazers from TNGT, the menswear selection is very weak.
Casual clothing is not much better either. Everything is either boring or overpriced. Can you believe the shirt in the picture above is a hundred bones? Overall, not a pleasant experience. Maybe I’ll check out some thrift stores… if I can find any…

This is TNGT..a korean brand my friend hipped me to. some of it inches towards like ghetto polo rugby status but some of their showing is hella strong. they have a ton of beautiful blazers in particular.
if anyone speaks korean and likes to buy me clothes here’s where to go

I’m actually going to Korea in two days. Any other places I should check out?

T & A: What to Wear to the Gym

tomandandrew:

T: A lot of my single friends spend more time hitting on girls at their gyms than they do at bars. When I was in college, I “wasted” countless hours in the gym talking to girls in the gym. But, I do like to think that it helped me once or twice.

After all, when my fiance and I were first dating…

I don’t understand. I thought this post was going to talk about fashionable athletic wear, but the entire “do” section seems to be focused on performance and practicality…

Q:Re: http://sartoriallyinept.tumblr.com/post/4937080486/the-midwestyle-had-a-post-today-about-why-you

“If you shoot for the middle, you’ll be neither too wild nor too tame…”

I never really understood why people want to be in the middle. I say go to the extremes. So what if you'll be too tame or too wild? At least it's your own kind of tame/wild.

Enjoying your tumblr and looking forward to more posts.

punchingclothes

Yeah. I really wanted to hear a deeper and more cogent explanation from Midwestyle about why they thought this way, so I contacted them right after writing the post to see if they could clear up some of the questions I had, but I have not yet received a reply.

About

I created this blog solely for the purpose of responding to poor sartorial advice posted on tumblr and elsewhere.

All the tumblrs I reblog are generally respectable ones.

I hope to one day merge this blog with Fuck Yeah Frat Bro, but I feel like no one on that blog would want to read my lengthy and boring replies to other people's posts.
